Be Prepared

The days before your appointment rest well, avoid sun exposure and alcohol. Before your appointment it is important to be come well rested, fed and hydrated. You do not need to shave, lotion or prepare your skin. I will do that for you.Dress for the task, cloths may get stained with ink or prep product and I will need to have access to the general location of your tattoo. My room is able to be completely closed and visually private when needed. You can also change at the shop before your appointment. At your appointment after checking in we will review the design and make any changes needed. I do not send stencils out in advance under any circumstance.Feel free to bring headphones or reading material if you prefer a “silent” session. (Just let me know!) You are also welcome to bring food and guests. If you have questions or have any special accommodations do not hesitate to reach out and ask.

Aftercare

If you have any questions or concerns during the healing process please contact me directly. While healing your tattoo your skin will change as time goes on. The following is a basic guide to the healing process.Aftercare Products
It can feel overwhelming when shopping for products. The secret is there is no one perfect product for healing. Any product coming into contact with your healing tattoo must be fragrance, dye and exfoliant free.
When in doubt listen to your body, if you use something and it stings or burns, or was applied by accident wash it off and allow to airdry.
Soap
You will want a basic antibacterial soap to keep your tattoo clean. I recommend liquid soft soap or dial gold.
Lotion and Ointment
No matter the product you use be sure you are rubbing it in completely. A wet tattoo cannot heal! If you already have a quality lotion or ointment that works well for you stick with it, you may try a few products before you find the right one for you.
Regimen
Once your bandage has been removed wash the tattoo. Do your best to keep it uncovered while healing. Wash with basic soap, and dry with a clean paper towel regularly.
Keep the environment clean for your new tattoo - this includes clothing and sheets.
Do not swim, submerge or soak a new tattoo in any type of water. Washing/rinsing with clean water is ok. Apply lotion/ointment as needed when tattoo feels dry or tight.
Bandages
Plastic wrap cover
This is a temporary cover to keep your tattoo safe for the first 4-12 hours. It should be removed once you are settled and ready for bed.
Second Skin/Tagiderm
This can remain on for up to 72 hours. Take off early if you are experiencing any sign of allergy (raised or itchy skin outside the bandage). Second skin will develop a layer of fluid much like a blister, this will not hurt your tattoo in any way but if it is becoming bothersome or leaking you can drain the excess fluid into a paper towel.

Healing Timeline

Your tattoo will take tree to four weeks to be fully healed. If you have healing difficulties or other health complications this could cause it to take longer.First 72 hours
Your tattoo may be red, tender, or swollen for 24-48 hours. Your tattoo will continue to weep fluid (blood, ink and plasma) and should not be concerning. Take percations with fabrics if you do not have a second skin bandage. Your tattoo will be very sensitive to heat and sun - be mindful outside and in the shower.
Two Weeks
The top layer of your tattoo is healing and will peel, flake, and sometimes scab.
Do not pick, scratch or peel the healing tattoo. If scabs are appearing be sure you are rubbing in lotion/ointment fully. Excessive moisturizing will make scabbing worse.
You cannot swim until the top layer is fully healed - this means no scabs, flakes, peeling, redness, or tenderness. This can take 2-3 weeks.
Three to Four Weeks
The surface has healed but your skin below is still working hard to heal.
Your tattoo will appear dull until 4-6 weeks, black and grey will continue to settle up to 6 months out.
After Four Weeks
If you experienced trouble healing no matter the reason please come see me for a free touch up.
If you are working on a larger project in steps you can safely continue working in that space.
